2020 - it’s all about innovation!

Press release.

Electra Business & Innovation Awards launch their new look for 2020.

2020 is a year like no other in so many respects, many of them not good, but what it is turning out to be is a year for innovation and the ability to think outside of the box.

Businesses have had to demonstrate resilience, quick thinking, flexibility and the ability to adapt to an ever-changing landscape. The Electra Business & Innovation Awards plans to do exactly the same, with a determination to not allow the challenging circumstances to overcome their passion to support, promote and recognise local businesses across the Kāpiti & Horowhenua regions.

They have adapted and flexed to meet the market where it is with a new simplified entry process, that is now all online via a dedicated platform that will allow all entries and judging to take place remotely. Of course, nothing can take away the importance of meeting a business owner face to face and all finalists will still meet with a Judge one on one, if the Alert levels allow.

There will also be online workshops available for entrants, to support them with their entries - connecting them with the team behind the Awards, including the Board, Programme Managers and Judges.

The categories have also changed for 2020, with the Awards announcing industry-based categories:

  • Food production and processing

  • Hospitality, entertainment and tourism

  • Construction and trades

  • Retail

  • Professional and business services, or technology

  • Not for profit, community and public services

There will also be subcategories for:

  • New/emerging (Less than 3 years in operation)

  • Small business (0-11 FTE’s)

The Kāpiti & Horowhenua Hall of fame will still continue as will the coveted Electra business of the year award, but 2020 will also see a special award for “Innovation - during Covid-19”.

Brendan Duffy (Chair of the Business Kāpiti Horowhenua Inc - who convene the Awards) commented,

No business on the planet could have anticipated the impact of Covid19, ANY business that survives it is a winner!. These awards are the perfect forum to salute success.

We encourage all businesses to consider the importance of entering the 2020 awards and ensuring that their business is recognised for the hard work, commitment and dedication we are confident they have had to demonstrate to make it through this challenging time.

The awards launch and entries open on the 18th May, so make a note in your diary and head to the website on the 18th May to get started!
